This is a DOWNSCALED preview. The original footage resolution is 5400 x 5400 px and is also available as a 4K (4096×4096) Dome Master.

With this camera setup we’re able to capture equidistance mapping hemispherical timelapse shots of ultra high quality and extreme resolutions ranging from 4K (4096×4096) to almost 8K (7500×7500) suited for most demanding fulldome projects.

The sequences were captured during our second ever and first successful rig testing session in Poland in Jan, 2012. Unfortunately we had only 2 days to get this thing to work and the weather was pretty ugly, therefore this time the content itself is not particularly mind-blowing. However, the purpose of this test is to showcase the technology capabilities and deliver quality samples.

BEST VIEWED IN HD AND FULLSCREEN (with scaling off)

Midnight Sun: A natural phenomenon occurring in the summer months north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle where the sun never fully sets and remains visible 24 hours a day.

This short time lapse film was shot during the Icelandic Midnight Sun in June of 2011.

For 17 days I travelled solo around the entire island shooting almost 24 hours, sleeping in the car, and eating whenever I had the time. During my days shooting this film I shot 38,000 images, travelled some 2900 miles, and saw some of the most amazing, beautiful, and indescribable landscapes on the planet. Iceland is absolutely one of the most beautiful and unusual places you could ever imagine. Especially during the Midnight Sun when the quality of light hitting the landscape is very unusual, and very spectacular.

Iceland is a landscape photographers paradise and playground, and should be number 1 on every photographers must visit list. Iceland during the Midnight Sun is in sort of a permanent state of sunset. The sun never full sets and travels horizontally across the horizon throughout the night, as can be seen in the opening shot and at the :51 second mark in the video.

During the Arctic summer, sunset was at midnight and sunrise was at 3am. The Arctic summer sun provided 24 hours a day of light, with as much as 6 hours daily of “Golden light”. Once the sun had set it wouldn’t even get dark enough for the stars to come out, and they don’t start to reappear until August.

My advice to everyone out there, photographer or not, is simple… You MUST visit Iceland sometime during your lifetime. You will never regret it.

“Far from the traffic jams and the go-go bars, Nitsch takes us into the front rooms of the eight million ordinary Thais who are the real Bangkok: busy, chaotic-looking, organised by an impenetrable idiosyncrasyand unashamedly human.” – John Burdett, Author

Pinche aquí para ver el vídeo

“Beautiful.” – Stefan Sagmeister

Beyond the skyscrapers and neon signs, which also increasingly oust the traditional cityscape of Bangkok, the photographer-artist Peter Nitsch grants us an intimate view of the retail businesses that are typical of Southeast Asia and the lives of their owners. For many of them the mostly two-storey shop, that on the lower level is open to the street, is workplace and living space in one. Thus Nitsch’s photographs condense entire lifestyles in cramped surrounding that are often crammed full to the last centimetre and nevertheless radiate an almost meditative peace.

Peter Nitsch‘s notes:
This time-lapse shows half a day in a Bangkok “Hair Salon” and it‘s result, a 1.80 x 1.80 m framed image and it‘s preparation for an exhibition in the Kathmandu Gallery. It isn‘t intedended to be a perfect time-lapse. Instead, it tries to visually emulate the rough and changing color settings and thus be closer to the real feeling of this particular “Hair Salon” – a buzzing honeycomb in the humming megacity Bangkok. If you attend the salon you really feel transported back in time, Thai-music from the 70‘s radiates out of the 20 year old radio, people chatting amongst one another as if they were old friends – and the owner looks after you like you were her own daughter or son – you really feel at home there.

In this “Hair Salon”, life and work are close roommates. Whilst the people are getting nice hair cuts, the owner of this mamma and papa house is preparing food for her lunch (you can see the potato peelings lying on the floor in the final fine-art photography at timecode 02:46 – which is permanently exhibited in the entrance at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bangkok – shown at the end of the time-lapse). More photographs from this ongoing project can be seen in the app “SHOPHOUSES – 4 x 8 m Bangkok.

Awards:
SHOPHOUSES are International Photography Award Los Angeles winner of “Honorable Mention”.
