TOO MUCH? by Amarist & Alejandro Monge

Steve Bug . Till It’s Gone

A deranged jeunesse dorée daydream à la mode between isometric marble madness landscapes and optical illusions. The rules of this world are based on an autistic interpretation of mathematics and are sporting mud color schemes, copper slinkies, deflated silicone socks, slick flat geometries and black bulging blobs altogether dancing a blasé style.

Plurabelle . Our Fires

In addition to pixel art and frame by frame animation, graphics in this video are based on various influences. The main ones arise from the underground manga, especially Maruo Suehiro’s “ero-guro” or erotic-grotesque style (to name one), that mixes both horror and erotic genres. Human passions such as love and violence become exacerbated to their climax, making the man look like a crazy and decadent animal, the whole thing taking the form of a macabre poetry.

STEPS by Geof Ramsay

Steps is an exploration into the idea of reinvention. By re-conceptualizing objects that were originally designed for one purpose, we find alternate or multiple uses. In stripping the stair of its more cultural and metaphorical meaning, and allowing the essential structure of the stair become both the practical and the aesthetic value, Steps re-orients us to the idea of the stair and how we use it. Steps transforms the staircase’s iconic form into multi-functional seating by incorporating a seat back to the second “tread.” In doing so, Steps form becomes both a seat with two end-tables and two seats with one end-table.

matthew-simmonds_01

MATTHEW SIMMONDS

From his early childhood, Simmonds was fascinated by stone buildings, an affection that flows into his artworks, where stone architecture is used as a central theme. Particularly the medieval architecture, with its striving to get to a new sophistication of space, comes alive in the marble. Simmonds makes a play of architecture and ornamentation on a small scale, but the spaces created give the same feeling as in the buildings themselves; a place to rest, a place to travel with the eye and maybe find a moment of tranquillity. The marble is opened up, and inside is a space within a building that only exists in the viewer’s mind. What you sense is the significance of space.
